Sun Seto (瀬戸 燦 Seto San ) is the main female protagonist of the series. She is the daughter of Gōzaburō Seto and Ren Seto and the wife of Nagasumi Michishio (which now makes her Sun Michishio).
Appearance
Sun is a beautiful fair-skinned girl with waist-length tan hair that has square bangs, light brown eyes, an above average figure and a relatively large bust.
Personality
Sun is a kind girl with a strong moral compass. She is a firm believer in mermaid chivalry and upholding traditional Japanese values for womanhood, hence was prepared to either die or marry Nagasumi for breaking mermaid law, but eventually grew to genuinely love the boy. She loves her family, but she disapproves of their actions, namely trying to kill Nagasumi. Suns beauty, kindness, and charm earn her the adoration of nearly everyone she meets.
Unfortunately, she is also rather naive and can be rather ditzy. She believes that her father and the Seto Gang trying to kill Nagasumi is out of a genuine desire to protect her and appreciates it to a degree, even tearfully thanking them for "looking out for (her)" once (even if she makes it clear she is annoyed by their actions and hates seeing Nagasumi almost die). Furthermore, she doesn't see the darkness in Nagasumi's parents despite witnessing their abuse of their son firsthand due to how respectful they are to her, and she gives them respect nonetheless since they are her in-laws. While she loves Nagasumi and always tries to protect him when his life is on the line (when she is aware of what is happening and she is capable of doing so), she doesn't respond to Nagasumi's non-fatal physical abuse on others, such as beating from her father, friend Lunar, and his parents, simply brushing it off and accepting their reasons for doing so.
Despite this, she proves to be very devoted to Nagasumi, even willing to go to war with another yakuza clan to retrieve him (even after she had been led to believe Nagasumi cheated on her and he was marrying another woman).
Powers and Abilities
When push comes to shove, Sun demonstrates a great deal of inner strength. Sun often uses her Song of Heroes to power Nagasumi Michishio up in battle situations. She has shown a great deal of swordmanship, which she was taught to by Masa.
In the final arc of the manga, is is revealed that due to her lineage, being the daughter of a noble and a sea dragon, Sun is expected to surpass the power of a dragon when she is older. Given that Gozaburo's true form is stated to be so strong that "all of humanity and their nukes" wouldn't be able to beat him (and Nagasumi was still weak compared to him even when empowered by the Song of the Heroes), that would mean that Sun will one day become even stronger.
Plot
Sun decided to face her fears and take on the responsibility of taking care of Nagasumi Michishio as her husband, although it doesn't make it easy on her due to almost everyone in the Seto group (except Ren Seto (Sun's mother) and Masa) who are against their union. However, as the series progresses, she truly falls in love with Nagasumi.
Trivia
- The name Sun means "sunshine" (燦) in Japanese.
- Sun's surname Seto means "swift current, rapids" (瀬) (se) and "door" (戸) (to).
- Sun gains control of her transformation with training; though forcibly willing her legs not to change back into a tail is painful.
- In the final arc of the manga, is is revealed that she is this centuries next candidate for "god" due to her lineage (noble and sea dragon). Which means that if the current god, Terra, were to loose her position or die, Sun would take her place and become a goddess herself.
